Do you want to succeed in affiliate marketing sales? Of course you do. The so-called “gurus” also know you want to succeed. That’s why they’re trying to sell you the “secret”. The “secret” is some supposedly hidden information that will make you rich overnight. I’m here to tell you there is no secret, never has been, and never will be. The best way to earn money in affiliate marketing is obvious to anyone who cares to look. Here are three pieces of sound advice I have picked up during my time in this industry.

1. Remember your purpose.

Building any business, online or offline, is a pain in the neck. No one is going to hand you success on a plate. Every dollar has to be earned with sweat and toil, and there are always— ALWAYS— obstacles!

Your kid gets sick, or messes up in school, and you have to tend to that.

Your boss (because you still have one) is giving you a hard time over something that isn’t even your fault.

Your friendly bank manager is no longer so friendly.

What keeps you going in the face of all this?

Money? No, money is not and never has been enough. Strange to say, but I am convinced that no person of sound mind is actually that driven by thoughts of cash.

It’s what money means to you that will motivate you.

What’s your reason for being in business? Is it just for you— so that you can have that feeling of accomplishment? Is it so you can retire young (or at least younger!)? Is if something that money can do for your family?

Figure out what that is. I am deadly serious. Figure it out NOW.

You will quit in a month if you do not have a sufficiently powerful WHY.

2. Remember your plan for success.

I remember well my first attempts at earning money online. The whole project was so complex, and posed so many huge challenges for me, that I forgot what the end result was supposed to be.

I convinced myself that the sheer difficulty of what I was trying to do practically guaranteed that this HAD to be best way to earn money online.

I spent the best part of a year working out a ton of new problems and skills I had never confronted before. What did I have to show for my efforts?

Quite simply, I had a money-sucking mess.

Don’t do what I did. Just don’t bother.

K.I.S.S. Your business has to be simple. And your business plan has to be simple too.

Your business and your business plan are not the same thing.

A business is built by following a business plan. The business is the end goal. The business plan is the plan for getting there.

Keep things simple. Can you draw out your business and your business plan on a sheet of paper? You should be able to! If not, you are probably already making it more complicated than it needs to be.

Try describing your project to a twelve-year-old. Can you do it? Can you make yourself understood? If not… why not?

Always remember: Keep It Simple, Silly!

3. Remember to roll up your sleeves.

You’re not lazy, are you?

It’s OK to admit it. I’m lazy too!

We need to get a work ethic going for us if we are going to succeed at the affiliate game.

The gurus who are selling you the BIG SECRET for $97.00, and who then say to you that the REAL secret is just around the corner, and can be had for an additional 37 bucks, are playing to our laziness.

Isn’t it the case that we all want things to happen for us with the minimum of effort and pain? Be honest!

More bad news: Affiliate marketing success is not going to hit us on the head like a gold brick. We’re going to have to dig it up for ourselves.

Ands… that’s it. The secret, if ever there was one, is in front of our noses.

Success in affiliate marketing sales will come to you ONLY when you know “why”, when you have a simple plan, and the will to see it to the end. This is not the best way to earn money, it’s the ONLY way. Or do we want to keep deluding ourselves, and keep the “gurus” rich?!
