These days the mantra for modern business is marketing. Marketing plays an integral role in your end results of sales for your organiation. While you may understand the benefits, for many the process of article submission may be better left to experts, allowing you to busy yourself with other important tasks that are in the pipeline. For this reason many freelance companies are taking on the role of article submission. By outsourcing this work you can save precious time and energy for your actual business and specialist expertise. The challenge then is selecting a group to outsource to, and feeling sure that they will submit your articles resourcefully and aptly.

There are certain things you should really consider prior to making your selection of an article submission service. Firstly, take a look at the list of sites that they have recommended for your article submission. Check them initially to be sure they actually exist, and are not some site created by the outsourcing company for the purpose of false submissions. Secondly, look at the sites quality and number of visitors (tools such as Alexa and Google Toolbar can help with this). It is pointless if you have articles submitted only to discover that the site they are placed on is never even visited. Unscrupulous organizations have been known to develop sites to show the client that the article has been submitted; but the reality is that the article will never be read. Check all the sites on the list and see if they are indexed on Google. Part of the ultimate purpose of the submission is that your site will be indexed, so if your articles are on a site that is not indexed by popular search engines then not only will your article not be read, it will not lead anyone to your website and blog and so on.

As with any marketing program, the target audience needs to be recognized before making a list of sites. You need to be sure that your efforts are concentrated on submission to those sites most frequently visited by the target segment for your business. Quite simply, when you focus your submission on relevant sites then you will get more quality traffic, submit your articles to the wrong site and there will be few or no readers, hence no generation of traffic. This is where using a tool such as Alexa becomes useful. Alexa checks the traffic on each given site and likewise the sites on your list can be checked using Alexa. If the sites are indexed you will also be able to analyze the traffic of the selected sites using the Alexa tools. It is important to always keep that target segment in mind when making any posting on any website. If your posting is only likely to be viewed by people who do not have any interest in the topic, then chances are they are not going to read the posted material, hence you are unlikely to benefit with any traffic for your efforts.

Be aware that certain sites will not take articles if they are submitted to them by software. With so many spamming problems, this is more a precautionary step taken by many good quality sites these days. As the individual submission step ensures that there can be a limited or lesser number of submissions made, sites are therefore only taking copy submitted in this manner. An additional tip is to check if the article submission company proof reads your articles. It is very important to have error free articles, as mistakes do reflect upon you. When you are checking your own work it is always much easier to miss mistakes because you anticipate what should be there. No matter how many re readings a writer gives to the article, it is always better to have the articles edited by another party.

Any good company will always prioritize the search engine optimization of your articles. Making the articles search engine friendly ensures that the moment any related keywords are entered your article will show up in the first few. Always avoid spamming, focusing on maintaining an optimum level of submission as an ongoing project. Flooding the internet with loads of articles may in fact be counter productive and risk your site being blacklisted by Google. Choose your article submission service carefully and with a view to a long term effort on both sides. Consistency and ongoing initiative is the best way to go, so select a quality provider that will work on the bigger picture for you, not simply take the money and run!

Articles have become the foundation of the Internet. Even in the face of the growing audio and video revolution, the underpinning information revolves around articles. They form the primary content for most websites. They serve as the primary means of driving traffic to most websites. Almost all Internet marketers use articles as part of their traffic strategy.

Whether you write them yourself, use private label rights material, or outsource them, you need to understand what makes for a successful article and how to maximize the cumulative effect of your articles.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at some basic elements that should be incorporated into every article you use …

1. Title Keywords And Keyword Phrases

Keywords are still the primary way of directing traffic on the Internet. Whether you’re online looking for information about how to use a yo-yo or you’re looking to purchase a Stanley 25 foot, retractable tape measure … you start with a basic search. Google, or whatever other search engine you may be using, develops a list of websites and articles that they believe meet the criteria of your search term. In the case of our examples, these would be either yo-yo related or Stanley tape measure related.

If you have a website, or you’ve written an article on how to use a yo-yo, but the term yo-yo or more appropriately, “how to use a yo-yo,” isn’t included in the title, then your content will most likely never appear in the search engine results. Or, if it does, it will be buried so deep in the results that it’s unlikely anyone will ever find it.

So, in your website page title and in the title of the article, you want to include the keyword phrase that properly reflects the content. In the case of our example, once again, it would be … how to use a yo-yo.

2. Keyword Density

There was a time when keyword density was the way the search engines measured how well your content met the criteria of a search. For instance, if you only had “how to use a yo-yo” in the title and it appeared nowhere else on the page, then your content would be deemed less relevant than content that included the same phrase dispersed fairly regularly throughout the page.

Of course, this was quickly abused by webmasters who wanted the search engines to place their content at the top of the results. Some would write nonsensical articles stuffed with keyword phrases. Others would hide keyword phrases on the page by making them the same color as the background. Well, the search engines frowned upon such tactics and quickly went about deleting them from search results.

Until recently, though, it was still believed that having a keyword or keyword phrase appear on the page (or in the article) two to three percent of the time would be helpful. However, as the search engines have become more sophisticated they’ve learned to recognize appropriate content without the need to see constant references to a keyword phrase.

So, in our example of “how to use a yo-yo,” they’re able to identify associative terms such as yo-yo string, palm of your hand, yo-yo tricks, walk the dog, holding the yo-yo, making a slipknot, etc.

The bottom line: get your keyword phrase into your content a couple of times and don’t worry about density.

3. Provide Good Content

What else needs to be said? If you’re going to write articles for distribution or for your website pages, make them solid articles with content that visitors will find to be worth their while. Don’t junk up the Internet anymore than it already is. Respect your visitors. Respect your business. Do it right.

4. Linking Articles

Articles written for the purpose of promoting your website or a product should use proper linking strategies. For instance, if the article is on how to use a yo-yo and you want traffic to a specific page on your website about buying the right yo-yo, you would take advantage of your resource box at the bottom of the article for this. Here’s what you might include: To learn more about yo-yoing, visit our site at (list the website address). And if you’re looking for the latest yo-yo models with designs that make every step of yo-yoing easier than ever, don’t miss our specials!

In this example, you would want to anchor the text “latest yo-yo models” with a link back to your sales page.

As your article gets distributed to numerous article directories around the Internet, each one will have those two links pointing back at your website. This is an excellent way to not only draw traffic, but to gain the attention of the search engines.

The algorithm that Google uses to rank websites looks at over 50 different factors. Not all of them carry the same weight though. So what are the most important criteria Google uses to rank webpages? Here is a list for those who would like to know.

1. Pagerank

Every site is given a pagerank (pr) number from zero to ten with yahoo and google being a ten and new domains with no links being zero. The higher the number the easier it is to rank for any given keyword. Pagerank is calculated from a complex formula that few other than google engineers can understand. The basic rule of thumb to increase pagerank is to get links from other websites with a high pr and limit the number of links going out to other sites.

2. Incoming links

The quantity and even more importantly the quality of links is an important factor. Google looks for sites that appear to have a natural link popularity. That means having a wide variety of sites linking not just one type such as social bookmarking or blogs. Also the link text is important. If all incoming links are the same keyword it is a red flag and will likely hurt more than help rankings. Relevancy of the links is also important. A link is relevant if it is coming from another site of the same topic. Finally there is the the rate of link growth. What Google likes to see is a combination of slow link growth from a variety of different relevant sites and varying link text.

3. Page titles

This is the most imporant part of the page that the algorith looks at. It is important to choose keyword rich titles for each page.

4. Keyword density

The number of times a keyword shows up on a given page helps tell the search engine what it’s about. If keywords are used too many times then it is a sign of spam to google and will actually hurt the sites ranking. A good idea is to keep keywords density lower and instead use related keywords. That is known as latent semantic indexing (lsi) and google favors sites that use it.

5. Age of domain

The actual age of a domain can be a friend or enemy for search engine optimization. Newer domains are very difficult to get ranked while domains older than two years are much easier. This is because older domains are trusted more.

While meta tags used to also be a the five factors above are the main reasons why certain sites show up often on the first page of the results on google.

If you are using your autoresponder to sell a product or service, you must be very careful as to how you approach your potential customer. Few people like a hard sale, and marketers have known for years that in most cases, a prospect must hear your message an average of seven times before they will make a purchase. How do you accomplish this with autoresponders?

It’s really quite simple, and in fact, the autoresponders make getting the message to your potential customers those seven times possible. On the Internet, without the use of autoresponders, you probably could not achieve that. Too often, marketers make the mistake of literally slamming the potential customer with a hard sales pitch with the first autoresponder message - this won’t work.

You build interest slowly. Start with an informative message - a message that educates the reader in some way on the topic that your product or service is related to. At the bottom of the message, include a link to the sales page for your product. Use that first message to focus on the problem that your product or service can solve, with just a hint of the solution.

Build up from there, moving into how your product or service can solve a problem, and then with the next message, ease into the benefits of your product giving the reader more actual information with each and every message. Your final message should be the sale pitch not your first one! With each message, make sure that you are giving the customer information pertaining to the topic - free information! This is what will keep them interested in what you have to say.

This type of marketing is an art. It may take time to get it exactly right. Use the examples that other marketers have set for you. Pay attention to the messages that you receive from other marketers. Start a ’swap’ file, and keep those messages. Use some of the better sales copy for your own autoresponder messages - just make sure that yours doesn’t turn out to be an exact copy of someone else’s sales message!

Remember not to start with a hard sale. Build your potential customers interest. Keep building on what the problem is, and how your product or service can solve that problem or fill that need. If you are doing this right, by the time the potential customer reads the last message in that series, they will be convinced enough to make a purchase!

There are also some money making scheme that evolved wherein you are advised to join a program for you to earn through the Internet.

But as of today, Internet marketing has become synonymous to advertising. And the best way to do this is through creating valuable articles. This way, it is less costly especially if you have the knack for writing and you are going to create your own materials.

Writing the Articles

Writing for the web is a lot different as compared to feature writing on magazines or even in the newspapers. This can be easy to do once you get the hang of it. All you’ve got to have are ideas about a specific topic that you want to become an expert on. But if you really do not have the knack for this craft, you can always hire freelancers to do the task for you.

First thing that you have to remember when writing the articles is that you must have a specific audience in mind. You will address your materials to them. You are vying for their attention that is why you are writing your articles in a way to reach out to them. This is the kind of topics which they are interested to, so you write about it until you are considered and expert. That will not be hard to do especially when you have good content which your target market is always on the lookout for.

You have to be subtle in promoting your own web site, products and services. This rule applies when you get your articles published on different submission sites. Most of the time, you will be allotted a box, an ample space wherein you can create an author’s bio. That’s the part where you can have a link to your site. The idea here is when you already got the trust of your readers, they will be interested enough to click on your specified links.

Take note of the word count. Other submission sites would accept 300 or so words for articles. But most sites prefer 500 to 550 minimum word count. Read the rules thoroughly so that you won’t get banned from any of those useful sites.

Also be careful in using keywords. Do not use it too much to the point that it will annoy your readers. Stuffing your articles with keywords will just make your readers turn away from your materials as long as your motives become very obvious.

Lastly, choose an article submission site that ranks high on Google and in Alexa. You don’t want to submit your work on spammy sites. That will not do your business any good. You can also study where your competitors do their submissions. This way, you can zoom in on those sites and start on your submissions.

Read through an article on Internet marketing just like this one before you plunge into a territory which is still unknown to you. This way, once you’ve entered the battle, thetre will be no turning back.

Here are the benefits that writing articles can give your Internet business.

1. It’s absolutely free.

Too good to be true? Not. Okay, you have to pay for your Internet Service Provider. That’s it. All you need is your thoughts, your computer, and your hands. If you have those, nothing will stop you from typing words that will make you complete that article for your website. On which aspect of that process did you really shell out any cent? Maybe later when your electric bills come.

2. Your website will be noticed in a short period of time.

Submit that article of yours to article directories that get the most web traffic and in no time your web site will be crawled. That is if you don’t forget including your resource box or byline.

3. Obtain back links automatically.

When you submit your articles to directories, surely, other websites will make use of your article too. With the copyright terms of your articles, the URL of your website will still be in tact and will subsequently direct more traffic to your website.

4. Improve your reputation.

As an Internet marketer, if you plainly display your products on your website, you will not gain much conversion rate. Conversion is when your traffic converts to sales. You have to show that you are knowledgeable on your field. And what better way to show that than by writing articles that will allow you some bragging rights, right?

Just make your creative juices flow and jot down or key in those ideas quickly to jumpstart your article writing momentum. With those benefits listed above, a writer’s block is the last problem you will ever be able to surmount.

Shelly Samuel, a business information system analyst.

Offering free things to your website visitors is one marketing method that often results in a lot of sales. Free courses that are delivered via email are very popular, and people sign up for such courses on a regular basis to learn more about a topic of interest to them. These courses are best maintained and delivered with the use of autoresponders.

An autoresponder can be set up to send out a series of lessons for an email course. The lessons can be set for distribution at specific intervals. You determine how often the lessons for the course are sent to the people who have signed up for it. Email courses are very different from traditional courses, web based courses, or any other type of course.

There is no student and instructor interaction. The instructor writes the information out, puts each lesson in an autoresponder series, sets the timing for the lessons, and the rest is automated. You can opt to have lessons delivered daily, every other day, every three days, or any other time frame that you think works best for your email students.

Email courses are commonly used to sell products and services. For instance, if you sell widgets, you might develop a course that teaches people how to use widgets or how to care for their widget. Experts agree that an email course can be written for almost any product that you can imagine - if you put enough thought into it.

Start by determining what your course will be about, and how long it should be. If the course should be delivered every other day for two weeks, you know that you would need seven lessons. Write the lessons, and load them in the autoresponder. Set the interval for each lesson, which in this case would be 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13.

This means that the first lesson would be delivered one day after the person has requested the course, and the second lesson would be delivered three days after the person has requested the course, and so on. The interval for each lesson is set for the number of days after the person has signed up Make sure that everything is spelled right, and that your sentences are grammatically correct. You want the lessons to look and sound as professional as possible.

Next, simply advertise the email address that will activate the autoresponder. Make sure that you run a test first, sending each lesson to yourself. This will allow you to see what your email students will see when they sign up!

Though it might seem cliche, when trying to market one’s products or services, one of the best things in life truly are free. One can save a lot of money through the use of free Internet marketing services to promote their products or services, thus reserving funds for other important aspects of their online and offline business. After all, many information websites now offer internet marketing services free of charge.

Yet while using these new, lower cost methods, keep in mind that it will benefit your business to combine traditional advertising efforts with the skillful use of new marketing media, this includes the use of Pay Per Click. Combine the old and the new for best effect for your business.

Here are a few of the free methods that, if used properly, will present your products and services in their most visible, saleable form, thus ensuring enhanced profits for you:

1. Promote your business through free search engine submission and optimization.

Submit your website to a number of different search engines, particularly the top search engines, on a monthly basis. This will alert the public as to the existence of your website and draw increased traffic.

2. Improve your articles.

Articles with solid content can bring a great deal of traffic to your website; especially if your website makes use of free keyword suggestion tools to enhance the original writings. Update your website’s content by monitoring the standing of your keywords with the current market, on a regular basis.

3. Acquire free content.

If you have no time to increase the SEO or search engine optimization-friendliness of your articles, you can seek free content packages from article directories. Always remember, though, to retain the resource box of those articles used so proper credit to the original source can be given.

4. Use free comprehensive web traffic analyzers.

These free Internet marketing tools produce elevated hits statistics for your website.

5. Manipulate web design templates to your advantage.

You don’t have to be a tech head to design your website. Web design templates or custom-made layouts are available for the Internet marketer to use, often free of charge.

6. Monitor your website’s visibility.

Make use of tools such as search engine position trackers to monitor your website’s standing.

These processes are not only free, they are very convenient. Yet you must learn and master them to achieve the optimum benefit for your website, to achieve the top goals in your ultimate Internet marketing feat.

If you are still on the fence about whether you want to use writing articles as a tool in your online marketing efforts take a look at these top 5 benefits of article marketing. These benefits may show you just how lucrative it can be to start writing articles and publishing them in quality article directories.

Expand Your Market Reach

Once you have written a quality article and publish it in an article directory, others can come and republish your article. Of course, they must keep your author’s box, including your links intact.

Once someone chooses your article, they may publish it on a website, or in a newsletter or ezine. This opens you and your links up to a whole new audience you never would have otherwise been able to get in front of. It only takes 1 big ezine to publish one of your articles to seriously increase your traffic.

Advertise Your Site for Free

In your author’s box at the bottom of every article you get to include at minimum 2 links. These links can go to your website, squidoo lens, hubpage, and even a sales letter (although some directories do not allow you to link directly to a sales page). If you have written a good article the reader will already trust you, they will be more likely to click on your link. Since you have already built some relationship with them through your article they are more likely to listen to what you have to say on your site, and follow your recommendations. All of this you get to do for free, just by submitting your articles to directories.

Improve Your Search Engine Rankings

Each of those links we mentioned above also helps you to improve the search engine placement for your site. That is if you are using related keywords as your anchor text in your link.

For each of your links you want to have the words that people click be keywords for your site. This will increase where your site comes up in the search engine for that term. Please don’t link to your site with “click here”. No one will be looking for your site by putting “click here” in the search engine. Make sure you hot link your keywords in your author’s box.

Build Your Reputation

Most people who are out looking for information do not know much about article marketing, or internet marketing for that matter. They see an article published online and figure the person who wrote it is an expert on that subject, especially if they find it on the first page of Google. This gives you instant credibility to those who find you. You can also build your reputation if you keep publishing quality articles on your niche. People will see you have all these articles about this topic and will assume ~ and it will probably be true ~ that you really know what you are talking about.

Builds Your Brand and Credibility

This is similar to the one above. This has more to do with the circles you travel in though. If you are in the “dog” niche, and you write and write about dogs, others who are in the dog niche, or coming into the dog niche will see you as an expert in that field. This can lead to JV requests, or links to your site as a trusted resource.

As you can see one simple article can do a lot for your business. When you take writing one article to writing lots of articles you will see these benefits multiplied, and your business will be growing.

If you are trying to help your website reach the top of the search engines for your keywords, one of the best and most effective ways to help your efforts is to attach a blog to your website and keep it updated on a regular basis. One of the most important things to Google is how often a website is updated. To improve your search engine ranking dramatically, you should be updating your blog at least weekly, with 100% unique content.

Within your content, you need to make sure that you mention your keyword(s) frequently, just like you do on your website. You should also make an effort to link out to at least two different pages on your site or other blog posts to help build internal links. This is the juice that fuels SEO.

At this point, you might be in a bit of a panic if you don’t have a blog on your website. Guess what, you shouldn’t be! There are quite a few blog programs that are absolutely free for you and I to use. If you use certain blog software, you can even install plug-ins that will assist you with your SEO and help you move your website higher and higher in the search engines.

One of the best blog software that you can find today is called Word Press. Word Press is absolutely free for anyone to use. Word Press is a slick content management systems that allows the use of plug-ins to make your life easy while blogging.

One of the very best SEO plug-ins that can be used with Word Press is the “All in One SEO” plug-in. This plug-in allows you to make each of your blog posts and blog pages optimizable for the search engines, but allowing you to add a unique title, description, and keywords to everything. This very small and simple step will help you set your website and more important, your blog apart from all of your competitors that are not taking these additional steps to tell Google exactly what your site is about.

SEO is rather simple, it is all about providing the search engines with fresh, unique content that is optimized to tell Google exactly what it is and how it relates to your website. If you take the steps necessary to optimize your website properly and add an optimized blog to your marketing mix, you will be able to accomplish your goals in reaching new search engine heights.
