There are all sort of online gurus who want you to believe that they have cracked the secret of online riches. That’s how they keep you buying their marketing products! But there really is no big secret to earning money from home with an affiliate marketing plan. The same qualities that help you succeed offline work online. Patience and hard work are as valuable today as they were a hundred years ago.

So— what are the exact steps you should take to get going online?

First of all, decide what your business is going to be. Find a need and fill it: if you see a need online that is not being sufficiently well filled, or that could be filled better or more cheaply, that may be the niche you want to pursue.

You might Google an excellent site called Nicheology (no, I am not an affiliate of theirs) for ideas on what’s hot online at the moment. It’s a paid site but it’s very good indeed.

Become an affiliate of a high quality, relevant product in your niche. Your niche should be something that both excites you and which you think can sell.

I’ve never counted, but Clickbank say they sell over 10,000 different affiliate products. Having spent some time in their vast catalogues, I am inclined to believe them!

There is a fair bit to learn about Clickbank, but what you should know is that the overwhelming number of Clickbank members are just like you: they are interested in earning money from home, and many are just starting out. Be assured, Clickbank is very user friendly.

If you are just starting out, please, for now, avoid trying to sell your own product.

You are apt to get bogged down with “information overwhelm” if you take on too many new tasks at once. The aim is to start earning money from home, not to conquer the world. (Trust me, I know something about this!)

You need to earn money quickly, or you’re likely to get discouraged. You don’t have the luxury of over-complicating things.

To get started in your affiliate marketing plan, you need not even have your own web page. The vendor will have provided one for you, so use it— unless it’s of very poor design.

In that case, you could have one custom made for you— but always talk to the vendor first.

Once you are set up as an affiliate for a suitable product (and by the way, you have bought the product and tried it out yourself, haven’t you??) you need to drive traffic to that site to get some sales.

For the beginner, articles and forums are good traffic generating strategies.

These provide you with free traffic. Use articles and forums to talk about the product or the niche, and your links will take folks to the sales page.

Only when you have started to actually make some money as an affiliate reseller should you consider putting up your own site. And, again, because you are still relatively new, I strongly suggest you outsource this task.

The purpose of having your own site is two-fold. First, you can talk about your niche, product or service in articles you post on your site, as in a blog, and second, you can invite folks to sign up for a free email list.

Of course you will continue to have links to your affiliate sales page, but now you are trying to establish a little authority in your area of increasing expertise. By having people following you on a blog, and by developing that all important subscriber list, you are now on the way to creating a real online business.

So, to summarise, start by selecting a niche, and then a good affiliate product to promote. Start off with the sales page provided, but progress to building your own. Now, with your site, develop a subscriber list and grow your blog readership.

Assume there will be problems and setbacks, and learn from them. When all is said and done, the web is a big place and is very forgiving of failure. (I know a lot about that!)

Now— create a product of you own.

And— sell your own product through your own affiliate program.

It’s so logical! It’s logical, and it’s doable. And it’s doable for you!

Earning money from home through an affiliate marketing plan is not so hard as you might think. It begins with a third party affiliate product, and ends you becoming the provider of an affiliate product for others to sell. With hard work and persistence, you can come full circle!
